Until that work finishes, the ground carries on as it has for a century, with its capacity roughly two-thirds of what it once held.

The name has changed with the occupying power. Built in 1920 by American forces as the American Stadium, it reopened in 1935 as the Hermann-Göring-Kampfbahn, complete with the political rallies and Adolf Hitler appearances that came with that era, then passed to French control after the war as the Stade de Gaulle. What stands today is the version rebuilt for the 2. Bundesliga in 2006 and 2007, when a new south stand went up in steel tube alongside floodlights and an undersoil-heated pitch. That stand lasted four years: foundation problems and the club's finances brought it down again in 2011, and the capacity has sat at 9,500 ever since. A worn synthetic running track, some forty years old, was replaced in 2017.

TuS Koblenz plays its Oberliga football here, sharing the ground with FC Rot-Weiß Koblenz and FC Cosmos Koblenz, but Oberwerth's name in the football record books comes from the DFB-Pokal. TuS Koblenz reached the last 16 in 2010/11, and in August 2024 the ground sold out — 9,447 through the gates — for a first-round tie against VfL Wolfsburg, lost 0-1. None of that touches the crowd Oberwerth once held: 40,000 packed in on 8 January 1950 to watch TuS Neuendorf, the club's forerunner, take on FK Pirmasens.
