Stadionul Arcul de Triumf
Bucharest, Romania
Formerly: Stadionul Tineretului
Stadionul Arcul de Triumf stands where the pitch was once dug for a rugby scrum in 1914. The original ground, Stadionul Tineretului, was demolished in 2018. The new structure, completed in 2021, carries the old name.
What you see first is the metal skeleton of the roof, a web of white trusses that cuts sharply against the sky. The pitch itself is a vibrant green hybrid surface, reinforced with synthetic fibres to withstand the heavy wear of both football and rugby.
FC Dinamo București moved into this temporary home in 2022, paying rent while their own stadium is rebuilt. The arrangement has not been without friction; the Romanian Rugby Federation and the stadium administration have clashed over fees, with demands for higher match fees threatening the national team's access to the venue. Despite the disputes, the ground remains a fixture for both sports, hosting the national rugby side, known as the Stejarii, and occasional international football friendlies.
The atmosphere here is dictated by the open design of the stands.
