Stadionul Zimbru

Almost nothing of the ground that stood here before survived the rebuild. The old Zimbru held something in the region of 90,000 — the figure is borne out by the Michael Jackson concert staged on the site in 1992 — and it was pulled down rather than reworked. What replaced it, between 2004 and 2006, seats 10,104.

A Zimbru training base operated here in 1957 and 1958, so the new stadium went up on land the club already knew rather than on the edge of the city.

Design and construction were handled by the Ceproserving institute, with Oleg Nisenboim as chief engineer. The pitch is natural grass, laid by the Swiss firm Matomatic.

It opened on 20 May 2006. The capacity has not been altered since; the 10,104 recorded at the opening is still the official figure carried by the Moldovan football federation.

The stadium is home to FC Zimbru Chișinău and hosts the Moldova national team.
