Ásvellir
Ásvellir takes its name from the Vellir district of Hafnarfjörður, a town on the southern edge of the Reykjavík metropolitan area in Iceland that keeps its own municipal government rather than falling under the capital next door. The ground was never built for football alone: handball and basketball courts share the same site as the pitch, all of it home to Knattspyrnufélagið Haukar, so a matchday here sits inside a wider sports complex rather than a stand-alone football ground.
Construction on the site finished in 1999, and the stadium opened for use the following year, in 2000. The pitch itself is laid with artificial turf rather than grass.
The address, Ásbraut 1, 221 Hafnarfjörður, places Ásvellir inside the same Vellir complex that lends the ground its name. Haukar's official site, www.haukar.is, carries the club's fixture and match information.
