Valletta F.C. plays home fixtures here, and the stadium's own institutional identity runs through the Malta Football Association, whose headquarters occupies the Millennium Stand on the east side.

The stand itself tells the more interesting story. It opened in 2002 to replace the original east side, which engineers had by then judged unsafe. The pitch went through its own quiet upgrade in 2016, when the MFA committed €1.5 million to convert the natural grass, in place since the ground opened in 1981, to a hybrid GrassMaster surface.

The stadium's biggest recent occasion came in 2014, when it hosted the UEFA European Under-17 Championship, staging seven matches including the final, in which England beat the Netherlands on penalties — a fraction of that 1984 record.

Outside football, the ground has doubled as a concert venue, hosting Antonello Venditti in 2013 and Mabel's Summer Daze Malta show in August 2025.
