The Den

The postcode, SE16 3LN, is the only part of the address that anybody agrees on — no house number appears anywhere in the record.

Work ran through 1992 and into 1993, and the doors opened on 4 August 1993 . The first match was played the same day, though the visiting side's name has not survived into the sources.

What is worth noting is the size the club chose. The early drawings put the ground somewhere between 25,000 and 30,000 seats. Millwall settled instead on a little over 20,000 — the figure now stands at 20,146 , every one of them a seat. Nothing has been added since it opened.

The one substantial change came underfoot. In 2021 the club finished laying a SISGrass hybrid surface, natural turf stitched through with synthetic fibre, which is what the players run on now.

The name has moved around more than the structure has. It has been printed as The New Den. Officially it is The Den, with no sponsor's name attached to it.
