The Dub (Upper Malone)
The Dub comes from the Dub Pavilion, a building already standing on the grounds. Officially it is the Queen's University Sports Grounds, part of Queen's University Belfast's estate on Upper Malone, and it is home to Queen's University Belfast A.F.C.
From 2003 the club played at Newforge Lane, a venue it used until 2011, before Queen's rebuilt its own site the following year. The £20 million reconstruction was carried out with Doran Consulting handling the engineering, turning a university playing field into a stadium with a stand rather than a touchline.
The Arena Pitch is natural turf, but the site around it is mixed: a sand-based synthetic pitch is laid out for hockey, and a separate 3G strip is kept for training, so university sport elsewhere on the grounds does not fall on the same grass the football club plays on.
No dedicated website has ever attached itself to the ground. The only trace online is a domain, qubafc.com, associated with the club, though whether it still serves as an active site is not established.
