The Nigel Eady County Ground

Since the 2024/25 season the ground in Swindon has carried the name of Nigel Eady, a supporter of long standing at the club; from 2017 to 2024 it was The Energy Check County Ground, and before either it was simply The County Ground, or the Wiltshire County Ground when the land itself was meant rather than the football pitch.

Swindon Town played on the neighbouring cricket field first and moved across to the present site later in the 1890s, which is why the ground's opening and the club's arrival are two separate dates rather than one. The cricket connection is still written into the address on County Road, off the same stretch of ground the two sports have shared since.

What changed most recently is under the players' feet. Until the spring of 2025 this was a natural pitch, as it had been for the whole of its life; the club then confirmed a switch to a SIS Grass Hybrid surface, natural grass stitched through with synthetic fibres. It is the sort of alteration that makes no difference to the view from the stands and a considerable one by February, when a worn goalmouth on an old pitch has historically decided how a match is played rather than who plays it.

Capacity now stands at 15,728 — a figure that places it among the smaller grounds in the English league, and unchanged through the succession of names above the entrance.
