Uni-Halle (Wuppertal) / Mitsubishi Electric Halle

Wuppertal, Germany

Formerly: Mitsubishi Electric Halle

The Uni-Halle in Wuppertal stands as a functional hub for regional sport. The building opened its doors in late 1987 after three years of work. It is not a cathedral of sport, but rather the second-largest multifunctional hall in the Bergisches Land region.

Its identity shifted with money. Formerly known as the Mitsubishi Electric Halle, it operates under the simpler title of the Uni-Halle now. The structure houses a floor area of 1,600 square metres. Inside, the capacity is confirmed at 4,100 people. Other figures circulate, but this number holds up against scrutiny. A renovation in 2013 cost roughly 14 million euros. That work replaced the roof and upgraded ventilation, yet the seating capacity remained unchanged.

The hall serves as the home for the Bergischer HC handball team in the Handball Bundesliga. They played there during the 2015/16 season with an average attendance of 3,200. Before them, the BBL team Union Baskets Schwelm hosted matches here for a single season. The venue has also seen other pursuits. It hosted the Rollhockey European Championship in 2010, which Spain won. It also prepared to host the Final Four 2026 judo competition.

It is distinct from the historic Stadthalle Wuppertal, a concert hall built at the turn of the century. It is simply where the local teams play.
