Four names in under a century mark Väre Areena's history more clearly than any anniversary: Kuopion keskuskenttä for most of its life, Magnum Areena from 2009, Savon Sanomat Areena from 2012, and the current title since 2021, taken from a local energy company. The ground itself, tucked into Kuopio's Haapaniemi district, has staged football since its opening on 29 May 1939 — only the signage above the stand has changed hands.

Kuopion Palloseura built the record that matters here slowly. A crowd of 7,412 for the game against KTP in 1981 stood unmatched for forty-three years, until 8,543 turned up on 19 October 2024 to watch KuPS play HJK in the Veikkausliiga. Nothing about the ground's footprint changed to allow it — the record simply waited that long to fall.

Renovation here has come in stages rather than one rebuild: a members' lounge added in 2003–2005, a media cube in 2008, extra seating in 2010 and 2011, and a further phase between 2018 and 2020 that replaced the dressing rooms and floodlights and added a 400-seat stand under the Kuntolaakso project. The pitch is artificial turf, which keeps the ground in near-constant use — KuPS field both their first team and reserve side here, alongside Pallokissat, and it also hosts European ties and the Kuopio Cup youth tournament each summer.
