Városi Stadion
The old ground here didn't get renovated — it got knocked down. Nyíregyháza played its last match at the old Sóstói Stadion on 9 May 2021, before the new Városi Stadion opened its doors on 25 August 2024 with a 3:3 draw against Fehérvár.
What went up in its place cost around 17.5 billion forints, roughly 45 million euros, and holds 8,150 people, every one of them under cover. The whole bowl is roofed.
That older stadium had already been rebuilt once, in 1999–2002, when a new covered stand went in, so the site at Sóstói út 24 has effectively been through two lives under two different structures carrying the same name. The pitch is grass, and training courts with artificial turf sit alongside the main ground for day-to-day work.
The naming is worth being precise about, since it gets muddled online: this is not the Sóstói Stadion, a name that belongs to a ground in Székesfehérvár, and it has no connection to the stadium in Tatabánya that was renamed Grosics Gyula Stadion back in 2011. In Nyíregyháza, both the demolished stadium and its replacement carried the same municipal name, Városi Stadion.
