Victoria Park

Formerly: The Victoria Ground, Northern Gas and Power Stadium, The Super 6 Stadium, Suit Direct Stadium, Prestige Group Stadium

Victoria Park did not start life as a football ground at all. West Hartlepool Rugby Football Club bought the land and built the place in 1886, and Hartlepool United came to it afterwards as tenants of a pitch.

The ground has taken damage. In 1916 a German airship bombed the main stand.

Its record attendance belongs to a single afternoon in January 1957, when Manchester United came for an FA Cup tie and Hartlepool clawed back from three goals down before losing 4–3. Matt Busby called it one of the most thrilling matches of his career. Middlesbrough, locked out of Ayresome Park, opened their 1986–87 season at Victoria Park with a 2–2 draw against Port Vale.

The ground has hosted more than men's football.
