Vladimir Boyko Stadium

The steel works built this ground and kept building it. The Illich Iron and Steel Works paid for it when it opened as Novator, and the same works paid again in 2001, when the reconstruction raised four stands around the pitch — two of them covered, two left open to the weather. That is the shape the ground held until 2022: an athletics track ringing the grass, under-soil heating beneath it, a park around the whole thing.

The name changed twice, and each change followed the club. Illichivets carried the works into the title. In February 2018 the ground took the name of Volodymyr Boyko, honorary president of FC Mariupol and a Hero of Ukraine, by then the man the place was associated with.

It was not only a club ground. The Ukraine women's national team played here, among those matches a qualifier against Slovakia for the UEFA Women's Euro 2009.

During the siege of Mariupol in 2022 the stadium was shelled and looted. The damage was irreparable; the ground is destroyed and cannot be used. The stands the works built, twice, are gone, and FC Mariupol plays its football elsewhere.
