Windmill Lane

The village of Angle sits at the western tip of Pembrokeshire, and Windmill Lane is the football ground that comes with it — a single grass pitch off the lane that gives it its name.

What sets the ground apart from the dozens of other pitches scattered across the county is that it has only ever served one club, and only ever gone by one name. Angle FC were formed in 1966 and started playing here straight away. The club and the field have the same age and the same history. When Angle marked their fiftieth anniversary in 2016, they marked it on the pitch they had used since the first season.

The football played here belongs to the Pembrokeshire League, and Angle have been in its Division 4 — the seventh tier of the Welsh league system. That level explains the ground more than any measurement does: grass, no artificial surface.

Even the address stops short of precision. There is no building number attached to the ground in any public listing, and the postal district covers the whole village. Windmill Lane, Angle, Pembrokeshire — that is as specific as it gets, and in a village this size it is specific enough.
