York Community Stadium
The site was not empty ground. Huntington Stadium stood here, and Ryedale Stadium before that under an earlier name, and it was pulled down so that something larger could take its place.
The opening came in February 2021, with the first match on the 16th of that month: York City lost 1-3 to AFC Fylde.
The playing surface is reinforced natural grass rather than a synthetic pitch, and it sits over a frost protection system — the sort of installation that only announces itself in midwinter, when a fixture goes ahead that might otherwise have been called off.
The most visible change since the opening came at the end of 2024. A new electronic screen, eight metres by four and a half, went up in the north-western corner. The board it replaced was not scrapped: it was moved into the FanZone, where it now serves the area outside the stands. That is the pattern here — a ground assembled on the bones of an older one, then adjusted in pieces rather than left as delivered.
