The match turned at the 39th minute when M. Da Cruz received a second yellow card and was sent off. By then Racing Union were reduced to ten men and could not recover their shape. Differdange 03 took advantage immediately, with G. Franzoni converting a penalty at 40 minutes to open the scoring.
S. Melhor doubled the lead at 54 minutes before adding a second goal one minute later. He was the standout performer, finishing with a brace that put the game beyond doubt. H. Pinto sealed the result at 90+2 minutes, and another goal followed at 90+3 minutes.
Differdange 03 dominated possession at 61 per cent and registered 85 attacks compared to Racing Union's 58. The hosts won eight corners to their opponents' single attempt, reflecting the one-sided nature of the contest.
The victory keeps Differdange 03 in contention for a higher finish after their fourth win in five league games. Racing Union will need to regroup quickly if they want to close the two-point gap to third place.
