Yaracuyanos FC — Aragua FC: 2:5, Copa Venezuela

Aragua beat Yaracuyanos 5-2 in the first round of Group C in the Venezuelan Cup on Tuesday evening. The visitors had never won before in the tournament's group stage, while the hosts sat second in the table with six points from three games.

Yaracuyanos took the lead in the thirty-eighth minute with a goal that left the scorer unnamed. R. Gomez equalised for Aragua four minutes later, and then Yaracuyanos went ahead again just before half-time with another uncredited strike.

The second half belonged to Aragua. J. Pinto levelled in the fiftieth minute, and F. Gutierez then scored twice, first in the fifty-eighth and then in the sixty-eighth. A seventh goal came in the seventy-eighth minute to seal the result.

The statistics told a story of efficiency over dominance. Aragua held just forty per cent of possession but registered fifteen shots on target with only one off target. Yaracuyanos had sixty per cent of the ball but managed seven on target from twelve attempts.

The result moves Aragua up the table, while Yaracuyanos drop a point. The hosts had lost only once in three games, but this defeat ends a run that included a 2-1 win over Aragua on the last day of August.
