Jefté Betancor Sánchez

Jefté Betancor Sánchez nearly walked away from football altogether. In 2017, with his career stalled in the Spanish lower leagues, he considered giving it up to work as an electrician instead. He carried on, moving to Austria to play for SV Mattersburg, Vorwärts Steyr and SV Ried.

He later turned down a lucrative offer from Thailand and stayed in Europe. A loan spell followed at Pafos FC in Cyprus, before a move to Panserraikos in Greece and, this year, a free transfer to Olympiacos.

Betancor is back in Spain now, on loan at Albacete from Olympiacos for the 2025–2026 season, wearing the number 10 shirt. In January 2026 he scored twice against Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey. In LaLiga Hypermotion he has also found the net against Las Palmas, Real Zaragoza, Sporting Gijón, Cultural Leonesa and Córdoba.

His path to that level ran through Hércules, where he made his professional debut in the Segunda División, and through spells at Tenerife B, Eldense, Las Palmas Atlético, Arandina and Unión Viera before he left Spain the first time. He has no record of playing for the senior Spanish national team.
