Luciano Cabral

Little of Luciano Cabral's story is conventional. Born in General Alvear and raised through the Argentinos Juniors academy after coming through CAI, he made 55 appearances for the Buenos Aires club between 2014 and 2017, with a loan spell at Athletico Paranaense along the way. That career was interrupted in January 2017, when Cabral was arrested over his role in a fatal street fight on New Year's Day and later sentenced to nine years and six months in prison. He served his sentence in San Rafael, Mendoza, working as a youth mentor for Sportivo El Porvenir during a period of semi-liberty before conditional release in September 2022.

He returned to professional football with Coquimbo Unido in Chile, making his competitive debut in January 2023 after nearly six years away from official matches. He became an important player there, scoring eight goals in 43 appearances, form that earned him a move to Club León in Mexico in July 2024. He added a further goal in 15 appearances in Mexico before returning to Argentine football in January 2025, when Independiente signed him on a three-year contract.

Cabral's international story runs alongside his club career: though born in Argentina, he holds Chilean nationality through his grandfather and made his senior debut for Chile in November 2024, in a World Cup qualifier win over Venezuela, having previously played for the Chile under-20 side. He has since added further caps without yet scoring for the senior team. He arrives at Independiente without major honours.
