MC Oran

The Miloud Hadefi Stadium holds 40,148 and opened in 2021 as a replacement for the old Olympic Stadium of Oran. Locals still call the team El Hamraoua, the Red Ones, after El Hamri, the Oran district where the club took shape.

That founding came on 14 May 1946, when nationalist organisers formed Mouloudia Club d'Oran, taking the name from the Mawlid, the marking of the Prophet's birthday. The club has since pushed to trace its lineage back further, to a Mouloudia Club Musulman d'Oran founded in 1917, in a bid to be recognised as the oldest club in Algerian football — a claim rival clubs and historians reject, and one that has not replaced 1946 as the official date.

Four league titles came between 1971 and 1993. Lakhdar Belloumi, reckoned among the finest players Algeria has produced, wore the shirt across several spells between 1978 and 1996. Continental football went further than for most Algerian sides: the club won the UAFA Cup Winners' Cup in successive years, 1997 and 1998.

The Oran Derby against ASM Oran still settles bragging rights in the city, while fixtures against CR Belouizdad carry the weight of what Algerians call the Super Classico.

One prize has eluded the club longer than any other: a run to the 1989 CAF Champions League final.
