Before that, it was the setting for the 2002 Arab Cup final, where Saudi Arabia edged Bahrain 1–0 after extra time. It also witnessed the 1974 Arabian Gulf Cup, a tournament Kuwait won, including a dominant 4–0 victory over Saudi Arabia. The venue remains active, hosting the Emir Cup and Crown Cup finals, and serving as a fortress for the Kuwait national team during World Cup qualifiers.
