Poland beat Latvia 3:0 in the CEV European Volleyball Championship on 19 September 2026. The hosts took the result without fuss, closing the gap on whatever they might have needed in the table.
By then Poland sat top with 13 points from five games, four wins and a single defeat. Latvia were fourth on six points after two victories and three losses. The difference between them was seven points, which is enough to keep things interesting.
The Poles had not looked invincible of late. They lost 2:3 to Bulgaria on 16 September, but before that they had three straight 3:0 wins over Ukraine, North Macedonia and Israel. To be fair, the Bulgaria result was the only blemish on an otherwise clean sheet.
Latvia's form was more uneven. They took three sets from Turkey on 16 September, but then dropped games to Switzerland and France before beating Germany 3:0 and Rumania 3:1. They did not travel to make up the numbers, but they were not finding consistency.
Three straight sets against Latvia puts Poland further clear at the top. Latvia remain in fourth, still six points behind the leader, and now with a heavier defeat on their record. The standings shift slightly, but not enough to change the shape of the table.
