Stade TP Mazembe
Lubumbashi, DR Congo
Formerly: Stade Mwanke, Stade Englebert, Stade TP Mazembe Englebert
Stade TP Mazembe is a modern structure on Avenue des Sports in the Kamalondo district of Lubumbashi, built by the club for itself.
What sets this place apart is its history as a private venture in Africa, designed to meet international standards. It replaced the old Stade Mwanke on the same site. The playing surface is not natural grass but a synthetic system, noted for its 60-millimetre height and a drainage system that keeps the pitch playable. The atmosphere changes when the big European nights come around. It hosted the 2015 CAF Champions League final and the 2016 and 2017 Confederation Cup finals. The pitch was replaced during renovations in 2019 to maintain its certification. On a quiet afternoon, the stadium is a clean, geometric space, but when the crowd roared them on during those continental nights, it was something else entirely.
