About

The BENE-League Handball is a cross-border competition that brings together clubs from the Netherlands and Belgium. Founded in 2008 by the Dutch Handball Federation and the Royal Belgian Handball Federation, it operates as a parallel top-tier league alongside the domestic HandbalNL Eredivisie and Super Handball League. For the 2024–25 season, the tournament was renamed the Super Handball League. The structure relies on a double round-robin regular season involving twelve teams, with six squads representing each nation. The season culminates in a Final Four playoff featuring the top four teams. Achilles Bocholt stands out as the most successful club, having secured seven titles. They defended their status as current champions by defeating HC Visé BM 33–27 in the final. A distinct feature of the competition is that victory does not grant qualification for European tournaments such as the EHF Champions League or the European League. Those berths are determined solely by performance within the national leagues. Instead, the BENE-League functions as a developmental springboard, allowing players to gain exposure to stronger European circuits. The league currently comprises six clubs: Aalsmeer HC, Bevo HC, Bocholt, Eupen KTSV, HC Visé BM, and Houten. Expansion is planned for the 2025–26 season, when the number of teams will increase to fourteen. Relegation processes involve a play-down series for the bottom teams, where losers face domestic promotion playoffs. The competition continues to serve as a vital link for handball development in the Benelux region.

The BENE-League Handball unites clubs from the Netherlands and Belgium in a cross-border contest. Established in 2008 by the Dutch Handball Federation and the Royal Belgian Handball Federation, it runs parallel to domestic leagues. The 2024–25 edition carries the name Super Handball League.

Twelve teams participate in a double round-robin format, leading to a Final Four playoff. Achilles Bocholt holds the record with seven titles, including the most recent crown won against HC Visé BM. Winning the league does not secure European spots, which remain tied to domestic results. The competition acts as a platform for player development. Six clubs compete this season, with plans to expand to fourteen teams next year. Relegation involves play-down series for lower-ranked sides.
