The Danish Handball Super Cup is an annual preseason tournament that matches the previous season’s top contenders for a single decisive evening. Organised by Tophåndbold, the fixture brings together the reigning Håndboldligaen champion and the winner of the Danish Men’s Handball Cup (Pokalturneringen). Should one club secure both honours, the league runner-up steps in as the opponent. The match is played as a single game with no extra time; ties go straight to a penalty shootout. The event typically takes place in late August or early September to mark the start of the campaign.
Aalborg Håndbold holds the record for the men’s competition, claiming eight titles since the inaugural edition in 2011. Their victories span 2012, 2014, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2024 and 2025. They entered the 2025 final as holders, beating Skjern Håndbold 35-29. Other men’s winners include KIF Kolding København with two triumphs, while GOG, Århus Håndbold, Bjerringbro-Silkeborg, Skjern Håndbold, TTH Holstebro and AG København each have one title. The women’s tournament operates on the same format. Team Esbjerg leads that table with five titles, followed by Ikast Håndbold with three and Viborg HK with two.
The competition carries different commercial names over the years. It was known as the HSM Industri Super Cup between 2016 and 2018, the Sparekassen Danmark Super Cup from 2019 to 2025, and since 2025, the Bambuni Super Cup. The Super Cup does not involve promotion or relegation and is distinct from the round-robin league structure and the multi-tiered knockout cup. It serves primarily as a season opener and a spectacle rather than a major competitive title.
