Huacares took the opening round in the División de Honor Plata, beating Amenabar 35:31 on Saturday. The hosts started the campaign with a win while their visitors opened with a defeat. Two points separate them in the table after one match each.
By then the game had settled into its rhythm, and Huacares held on grimly to protect a seven-goal cushion. The visitors had looked competitive early on — that 26:26 draw with Burgos in their last outing suggested they could trouble anyone — but Huacares were too sharp. The home side switched off at a set piece once, but recovered without losing momentum.
We had tipped the hosts to win, and the scoreline confirms that call. Huacares have the deeper squad and showed it in the closing stages, while Amenabar ran out of ideas when the match needed answering. The prediction stood because the home side have played together longer and know how to close games out.
Recent form tells a story. Huacares lost three of their last five but beat Contador Zaragoza 31:26 on their most recent trip, suggesting improvement under pressure. Amenabar drew with Burgos last time out but had earlier losses to Málaga and Ciudad-Real — inconsistency has been a theme.
Huacares sit third with two points after one game, while Amenabar are eighth with one point and a loss. The gap is narrow, but the home side have already taken the psychological advantage. Eight points cover the entire table after one round, so every match counts.
