Évisssa and Agustinos Alicante played out a 27:27 draw in the Dvisión de Honor Plata on Friday evening. The result leaves both sides with a single point after their opening fixture of the season.
By then, the pattern was already clear — neither side could find a decisive edge. And here's the thing about these opening rounds: you expect the stronger side to impose itself, but often the game settles into something more measured. Both teams pushed forward, both defended in numbers, and the scoreboard reflected that balance.
Évisssa came in having lost three of their last five meetings, including a 28:31 defeat to Sinfin earlier this month. Agustinos Alicante were similarly mixed, with a 24:30 loss to Benidorm on their most recent outing. To be fair, both sides have shown they can score — Évisssa hit 31 against Cisne, while Agustinos managed 40 against Burgos in a different campaign.
We had backed the visitors for a win, 52 per cent confidence. The match went another way entirely. What shifted it was neither side willing to commit too many men forward, leaving the result to come down to efficiency in the final third rather than territorial dominance.
The table tells a basic story at this stage — both teams sit in the bottom half with one game played, one draw, zero defeats, and zero points. It means nothing yet, but it also means there is room to move. The second meeting between these sides will offer a clearer picture of where they stand.
