Fakirerpur beat Dhaka Wanderers 2:1 in the opening match of the Premier League regular season. S. Sillah scored twice in the first half before A. Bailey pulled one back for the visitors. The result gives the home side three points from their first outing.
Sillah opened the scoring in the 35th minute, then doubled his tally just before the break. By then, M. Ganto had picked up a booking in the 39th minute. The home side took a two-goal cushion into the interval.
Dhaka Wanderers made three changes at half-time, bringing on S. Ritchil and S. Ahmad alongside S. Karki. Bailey responded in the 52nd minute to give his side a foothold.
The statistics told a different story from the scoreline. Dhaka Wanderers held 54 per cent possession and launched 70 attacks, but only managed two shots on target. Fakirerpur registered five shots on target from 78 attacks, converting their chances more effectively. To be fair, the visitors did create space but struggled to find the net.
This result marks a fresh start for both sides. Fakirerpur had finished tenth last season with just two victories from eighteen games. The opening round sets the tone for what should be a competitive campaign.
