Lemvig and Grindsted shared the points in the First Division on Saturday, the final whistle confirming a 31-31 stalemate at home for the hosts. The result kept Lemvig rooted at the bottom of the table with three draws from three matches, while Grindsted moved further clear in second place.
And here's the thing — we had gone with an away win at ninety-five per cent confidence before kickoff, but the match refused to fall into that pattern. Grindsted came in unbeaten and only a single point behind where they hoped to be, yet Lemvig held on grimly through the opening exchanges and never appeared to wilt.
The hosts had lost two of their previous three outings by more than five goals, including a 26-29 defeat to Aarhus Handball, so to see them dig in against a side sitting second in the standings took some watching. Grindsted's recent form had been steadier, with a 29-25 win over Nordsjælland and a narrow 29-30 loss to Vendsyssel, but the margin of victory rarely stretched beyond a couple of goals.
To be fair, the first half read like a tactical puzzle, both sides trading possession without committing fully to an attack. By then it was clear that Lemvig's defence had tightened things up, something not seen in their earlier meetings where they had been overrun in attack. The academy graduates on the home bench watched closely, and it showed in the way the visitors were denied easy chances.
Grindsted had played the second half a man up in earlier fixtures and usually pulled away, but this time they were left exposed at the back when Lemvig hit them on the break. The score remained level through the final twenty minutes, and when the clock ran out neither side could find a winner.
The draw leaves Lemvig on zero points after three games, still searching for their first victory in the First Division. Grindsted extended their unbeaten run to five matches and now sit four points clear, but the result carried no sense of dominance — the line has barely moved for either side since the season began.
