About the player
Facundo Lencioni's career took a decisive turn only once he left Belgrano for Gimnasia y Esgrima de Mendoza, initially on loan for the 2025 season with a purchase option attached. The move paid off in a way few could have predicted, as he had scored just twice in 39 league appearances during his time at Belgrano. At Gimnasia, he became a genuine goal threat, scoring 10 times in 34 league appearances in the Primera Nacional, and he converted a late penalty in the final against Deportivo Madryn before stepping up again in the shootout to help seal the title and promotion.
That campaign convinced Gimnasia to make the deal permanent, exercising the purchase option in December 2025 and turning it into a lasting transfer. Lencioni's path to that point had run through the Belgrano academy, which he joined in 2019 after coming through Peñarol de Rafaela and Atlético de Rafaela. He made his senior debut for Belgrano in April 2021 and signed his first professional contract the following year, a period that also brought a Primera Nacional title and promotion to the Primera División, though his own appearances that season came without a goal.
Since the move became permanent, Lencioni has continued to feature regularly for Gimnasia in the Primera División, contributing goals and assists in the early stages of the 2026 season. The transformation from a squad player at Belgrano into one of the figures behind Gimnasia's promotion marks the clearest turning point of his career so far.
