Jhonny Raúl Quiñónez Ruiz

Jhonny Quiñónez's career has run through a dispute that had nothing to do with his football. In January 2024, Independiente de Avellaneda bought 50% of the defensive midfielder's economic rights from Sociedad Deportiva Aucas for a fee of $1,000,000, payable in instalments, and signed him to a contract running to December 2027. Independiente failed to complete the payments, leaving around $620,000 plus interest outstanding, and in May 2025 FIFA ruled against the Argentine club over the debt.

By then Quiñónez was already elsewhere: in January 2025 he had joined Barcelona SC on loan for the season, with an option to buy. His time there was described as irregular despite being a frequent starter. He scored against Libertad FC on 19 July 2025 and was sent off against Independiente del Valle on 9 March 2025. Barcelona SC chose not to take up the purchase option, and by late October 2025 it was clear the move would not become permanent. The loan ran out in December 2025 and he returned to Independiente, with reports in January 2026 confirming he would not continue at Barcelona SC.

At international level, Quiñónez made his senior debut for Ecuador on 13 October 2019 in a 6–1 friendly defeat to Argentina, and scored his only goal for the national team against Mexico on 27 October 2021 in a 3–2 win.
