About the player
Jonathan Mutombo Mawesi's football education came at Paris Saint-Germain, where he spent seven years in the club's youth ranks before signing his first professional contract in May 2020. He never broke into the senior side at the Parc des Princes, though — his path forward meant leaving France altogether. In August 2021 he joined Vitória de Guimarães. There he settled into the club's reserve team in Liga 3, making 44 appearances and scoring once, and earned two senior appearances in the Taça da Liga in 2022.
Gil Vicente gave Mutombo his fullest taste of senior football. He signed for the club on a free transfer in July 2024 on a three-year deal and went on to make 18 appearances in the Primeira Liga. Born in Paris and eligible through both France and DR Congo, he has represented neither at senior international level.
His time at Gil Vicente ended before his contract was due to expire, with a move to S.C.U. Torreense in Liga Portugal 2 taking him back down a division. He has yet to add a major individual honour or senior title to his career.
