Diego Martín Alaníz Ávila

Diego Martín Alaníz Ávila started out in the Defensor Sporting academy in Uruguay, but his path to senior football ran through a loan spell rather than the parent club: he made his debut in October 2011 while out at Juventud de Las Piedras, and never actually played a senior match for Defensor itself before leaving in 2013.

That year he joined River Plate in Montevideo, and was almost entirely spent away from the club on loan. He was sent to Mexico with Monarcas Morelia, to Argentina with Argentinos Juniors, to Brazil with Chapecoense, to Spain with Real Oviedo, and twice more within Uruguay itself, at Racing de Montevideo and Liverpool Montevideo. A short loan in Israel with Hapoel Ra'anana rounded out that period. Among all those moves, two stand out: he won the Supercopa MX with Monarcas Morelia in 2014, and the Campeonato Catarinense with Chapecoense in 2016.

From 2017 he stopped returning to Uruguay between loans, starting with Guayaquil City in Ecuador. Mexico, Ecuador again, Bolivia, a brief return to Uruguay with Cerro Largo, and further stints in Bolivia and Costa Rica followed in quick succession. Alaníz has racked up somewhere in the region of 270 to 280 league appearances and around 55 to 60 goals, despite never being capped by Uruguay at any level, senior or youth.

In January 2026 he moved to Peru, joining Juan Pablo II College.
