About the player
Sergio Camargo was born in Cúcuta, Colombia, but moved to Canada at the age of four, going through Unionville-Milliken SC before joining the Toronto FC Academy. He then took the college route, playing for Coastal Carolina before finishing at Syracuse, and he had already worn Canada's colours as a teenager, appearing at the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
His path into the professional game ran through the amateur USL Premier Development League with K-W United FC, before a homegrown deal took him to Toronto FC. He never made a senior appearance for the club, and the move produced only a loan spell at Toronto FC II, followed by a season with Calgary Foothills FC.
The turning point came in November 2018, when Camargo signed for Cavalry FC on a free transfer. He has become one of the defining figures of the Calgary club since, taking on the captaincy from 2025. Camargo was on the losing side in the final again in 2023, but got over the line in 2024, scoring in the 2-1 win over Forge FC that delivered the CPL championship.
His individual recognition has followed more recently, with a Maple Lodge Farms Player of the Week award and a Gatorade Team of the Week selection both coming in 2026. He has not featured for the senior national team.
