AEK Athens Women

The European Cup qualification did not come cheap. AEK beat Iceland's Selfoss home and away, 32–26 at the G. Kassimatis Indoor Hall and 27–24 on the road, and only that aggregate carried the women's team into Round 3 of the EHF European Cup for 2025–26. It followed a domestic season that ended the other way: Olympiacos took the Greek championship from AEK 3–2 in the final.

The department dates back to July 2005, when AEK's General Assembly voted to set one up and merged it with GA Ilioupolis; the Greek Handball Federation approved it that August. Everything since has been built under the same colours, yellow and black, and the same nickname reserved for AEK's handball teams — Magkes.

Between the posts, Varvara Pyritidou has become a fixture for the national team as well as the club, while Brazilian goalkeeper Eduarda Longo Bavaresco gives the side a second option few Greek clubs can match. On the back court, Aikaterini Mania carries a similar dual role, capped for Greece while running AEK's attack from right back.

Games against PAOK draw more attention than most on the calendar. Greek sport calls any AEK–PAOK fixture, across sports, the Derby of the Two-Headed Ones, and handball is no exception.

The hall itself holds only a thousand, tucked inside the Olympic Athletic Center in Marousi, but it was there that the second-leg margin over Selfoss was built before the trip to Iceland sealed it.
