The name changed with the structure above it: ДО (House of Officers) until 1953, ОДО from 1951, СКВО from 1957, then СКА from 1960, then ЦСКА. The club had been founded in 1947. It folded in 1997, having finished bottom of the 1996/97 championship and run out of money to continue.
Promotion has been the recurring theme since. The reserve side, BKMA-2, topped the First League that same season but was kept out of the top division by the rules on second teams. Home games are played at the Yerevan Football Academy Stadium, which holds 1,428, in the club's blue and white.
Tonoyan is the name still attached to the club's second life — the minister who decided a Soviet-era army side was worth bringing back.
