The handball played there by TSV Bocholt 2 is a long way from the Bundesliga, in the seventh tier of the German league system, the Bezirksliga Niederrhein.
It was formed on 1 January 2009 when two clubs joined: TV Bocholt, founded on 1 May 1867, and TV Phönix, founded on 27 November 1896. The full name, Turn- und Sportverein Bocholt von 1867 / 1896, still carries both dates. Red, white and blue are the colours.
The second team has no nickname of its own and goes by TSV Bocholt II or TSV Bocholt 2. Home matches are shared between two halls. The Halle Werther, the sports hall on Werther Straße, is the older of the two. The Halle Euregio on Unter den Eichen is the bigger, and it seats 464.
