In August 2024, Wilfried Zaha's move to Manchester United closed a path that Crystal Palace's Academy has walked before and since: Tyrick Mitchell did not take that route. He stayed, broke into the senior side, and now captains it as an England international.

The under-21 side sits at the top of that pipeline, training and playing out of the same academy structure that has also sent on Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Nathaniel Clyne and Victor Moses, though Clyne's departure for Liverpool was not final — he later returned to Palace. Ben Watson left for Wigan and won the FA Cup there in 2013, a trophy his old club would not lift for itself until 2025.

On the pitch, the age-group side has done its own winning. It took the Premier League International Cup in 2023–24 and the Premier League 2 Division 2 play-offs in 2020–21, and its older honours reach back further still, to a Kent League title in 1913–14.
