Getting to Poland at all was new ground. Ecuador had missed the 2024 edition entirely, and their history in the CONMEBOL Sub-20 Femenina, contested since at least 2004, had never produced a finish good enough to send them to a World Cup. In 2026 it did: runners-up in South America, behind whoever took the title in Paraguay, was enough for a debut appearance in the global tournament.

La Tri train at the Centro Técnico Dušan Drašković in Daule, outside Guayaquil, though Quito's Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa has hosted them too, and Guayaquil's Estadio Modelo Alberto Spencer Herrera held their 2024 qualifying matches in front of crowds the smaller training base could never draw. Doménica Arboleda finished as the side's top scorer through the qualifying and World Cup run; her club football is played in Italy with AC Milan Women.

With the World Cup debut banked and a runner-up finish already behind them in South America, the side that reaches the next Sub-20 Femenina will be judged against 2026 as the standard rather than the exception.
