Flawil Women

Handball in Flawil grew out of the town's old gymnastics club, TV Flawil, where the sport was already being played by 1954, long before the Handballclub Flawil registered as its own entity in 1984. The women's section has spent most of that history well away from the spotlight, working through the lower divisions of Swiss handball and, in the 2023/24 season, fighting to stay in the 1. Liga rather than chasing silverware.

That changed in 2026. Flawil reached the final of the Swiss Cup, and lost it to SG Wyland by three goals, 26:29. It came after a run that included a 20:18 win over TV Appenzell the previous October.

The team plays in yellow and black at the Sporthalle Botsberg, a hall that holds 200 spectators, hardly a stage built for cup finals. There is no single old rivalry attached to the club; in the 1. Liga, Flawil measures itself against sides such as Wädenswil/Horgen, Uster and Grün-Weiss Effretikon, week to week rather than through any fixture with history behind it.

For now, the task in front of the team is the more familiar one: holding a place in the 1. Liga.
