Malters Women

Malters/Kriens play their handball in the 1. Liga, the third tier.

The step up came once, in the 2010/11 season, when the team lined up as SG Malters/Menznau and won the promotion playoffs to reach SPL2, the second tier, for the first time. The stay lasted a single season before relegation sent them back down. Third-place finishes in the 1. Liga, in 2003/04, 2007/08 and 2008/09, mark the rest of the record without another route back up.

Susanne "Erni" Susi shaped the club from within the goal and from the boardroom. She kept for Malters across two spells, 1993 to 2003 and 2009 to 2018, won seven caps for the Swiss national team in 2004, and sat on the club board for 23 years. More recently, the pathway has run the other way: Jana Flückiger topped the scoring charts in 2021/22 before leaving for LK Zug, and goalkeeper Dominique Huber, raised through the Malters youth ranks, made the same move into Zug's youth national-team pipeline.

STV Willisau treats matches against SG Malters/Kriens as a derby fixture. The club counts over 250 members across active, junior and legendary categories.
