Geneva Women

Second place in the Swiss championship, in 2014, remains the high point for the women of CS Chênois Genève Handball, achieved under coach Imad Yacoubi with Cassandra Subedi-Llorente Cañón among the squad that season. A national title has never followed, and the team has settled into life in the second tier, the 1. Liga/Elite, still chasing what that 2014 run promised.

The women's section came together in 1975, seven years after the men's club took shape in Geneva in September 1968. Red and black have stayed the colours throughout. Matches are played at the Halle Sous-Moulin, part of the sports centre in Thônex on the edge of the city.

Across town, Servette Handball Club supplies the fixture that matters most: the Derby Genevois. The rivalry once blurred entirely, when the men's teams of the two clubs merged between 2004 and 2007 under the banner SG Chênois & Servette, before Chênois went back to running its own name. The women's derby carries none of that shared history, but the name Geneva still means Chênois against Servette when the two meet.

Below the senior side, the club's youth teams have had their own moment of note, taking the Romand junior championship for western Switzerland back in 1994. For now, the first team's task is straightforward: hold a place in the 1. Liga and find a way back toward the level that produced 2014.
