MK Holon Women

Aurora Friedman came through Holon twice: once as a player, then again from the bench, which is not a common path in a club that spent decades leaning on names like Sibylle Jean, remembered here as the "Queen of the Sport" from the years when the trophies kept coming. Six Israeli championships between 1987 and 2015, seven cups between 1991 and 2013 — the kind of run that builds a reputation a small hall struggles to hold up under.

What the club has not managed is a first title in the State Cup. It reached that final only once, in 2019, and lost it to Maccabi Rishon LeZion, a defeat that sits oddly against six league crowns won in the decades before.

The women's side now plays in the Israeli Women's Handball League and has stepped into the European Cup Women, carrying a roster built around players like Yael Shoham and Nelly Aminov rather than the era Jean once defined. Locally the games that matter most are against Hapoel Kiryat Ono, a short trip away, with Bnei Herzliya and MK Beer Sheva supplying the other fixtures that tend to draw a fuller house.

That house is Katzir Holon, on Yitzhak Rabin Street — seven hundred seats, no more, which in handball is enough to make a close game loud.
