Handball had been played informally since Felix Schmid brought the game to Muri in 1965, but it took until 21 January 1978 for the section's regulations to be approved and TV Muri to exist as a club in its own right.
The colours have shifted with the club's sense of itself.
TV Muri plays in the 1. Liga, the third tier of Swiss handball. The club's name travels further through the players it produced than through what it has won: Daphne Gautschi started here before her career took her to Metz Handball and the Swiss national team, and David Parolo wore Muri colours before earning 16 caps for Switzerland and being named the country's Newcomer of the Year in 2007.
