Proin Sevilla

Ángel Montoro, a veteran of the Spain national team, retired in 2026. That was the season Cajasol Sevilla Balonmano Proin reached the Liga ASOBAL, the top flight of Spanish handball, for the first time. The club's climb was quick. It won the Segunda Nacional in Andalusia in 2023/24, took the Copa de Andalucía the following season, and then won the División de Honor Plata in 2025/26 to go up.

Along the way the club has carried a lot of names. It began in 1978 as Club Balonmano Elena Canel in the Triana district of Seville. It later became Club Deportivo Balonmano Triana, then Helvetia BM Prointegrada, BM Proin Triana and BM Proin Sevilla. The Cajasol name arrived in 2025/26 with a sponsorship deal with Fundación Cajasol. The nickname has stayed tied to the neighbourhood: Los Trianos, or Los Granates for the burgundy shirts. The youth academy's motto, "El futuro viste de granate" ("The future is dressed in burgundy"), uses the same colour.

Home is the Pabellón de Amate, a hall of about 1,500 seats. The club's other foreign internationals include the Chilean Rodrigo Salinas and the Brazilian goalkeeper Leo Terçariol, but what defines this side is how recently it reached the top division.

Promotion also changes the fixture list. In the Liga ASOBAL the Andalusian meetings the club has known as the "Derbi Andaluz" become top-flight games. The main opponents are Trops Málaga, also known as BM Ciudad de Málaga, and Ángel Ximénez Puente Genil. Both are Andalusian sides, so the trips are short and the travelling support can follow.
