Willisau

Willisau's handball side sits in the lower reaches of Swiss handball, and the last domestic cup run for either team ended early: the men fell in the round of 16 back in the 2011/12 Swiss Cup, beaten 33-25 by Handball Grauholz, while the women went out of the 2024/25 competition against GC Amicitia Zürich, 29-24.

The handball section runs under STV Willisau, the wider sports club that has organised gymnastics and other disciplines in the town since 1869 and marked its 155th anniversary in 2024. Handball is one branch of that tree rather than the trunk, and the club is still known locally by the old gymnastics nickname, Willisauer Turner.

Where the section has actually delivered lately is at youth level. In August 2024 its junior team won the UBS Kids Cup, beating CS Chênois Genève Handball 35-33, a result that stands out precisely because senior silverware has been so hard to come by.

Matches are played at the Sporthalle Hallenbad. No national championship or Swiss Cup title for the handball section appears on the record.
