Accor Arena
Paris, France
Formerly: Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy, Bercy Arena, AccorHotels Arena
The ground at 8 Boulevard de Bercy has managed to keep its name while changing almost everything else beneath it. The current moniker, Accor Arena , is the latest in a string of titles that began when the doors first opened in 1984. The architect Jean Prouvé worked on the original design, but the structure we see today is largely the result of an eighteen-month rebuild that finished in 2015.
The renovation added luxury boxes and new balconies, transforming the space so that it could be configured in thirty different ways. The capacity swells to 20,300 for a concert, though the floor is retracted for a basketball game, reducing the number of seats.
Concerts remain the heartbeat of the venue. Johnny Hallyday played 93 times in this building, and Daft Punk brought their ""Discovery"" stage show here, turning the arena into a spectacle of light and sound. The decision to host the 2019 League of Legends World Championship Finals was a signal that the building could still attract new generations of fans.
