Castello Düsseldorf
Düsseldorf, Germany
Formerly: Burg-Wächter Castello
The Castello Düsseldorf is not a football ground. It was built for sport and for concerts. The arena opened on 24 June 2005 after a competition in 2003, and it sits in the Reisholz district of Düsseldorf, the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia. The architects Guida & Mischok designed it as a multi-purpose hall with a flexible floor, and the building contractor was the sports club of the Freie Christliche Schule Düsseldorf.
The interior floor area is 1,620 square metres. The venue is owned by the City of Düsseldorf, which acquired it in August 2010 after the sponsoring club went bankrupt. It was formerly known as the Burg-Wächter Castello until summer 2011, when the sponsorship ended.
At present the arena serves as a temporary home for HK Motor Saporischschja, a Ukrainian handball club that relocated to Düsseldorf for the 2022/23 season due to the war in Ukraine. The team plays in the German 2. Handball-Bundesliga, and the ground also hosts volleyball matches and concerts. The address is Karl-Hohmann-Straße 1, 40599 Düsseldorf-Reisholz.
