Huddinge Hallen
Huddinge, Sweden
The building at Gymnasietorget 2 is not a stadium in the traditional sense. It is a combined swimming and sports hall that serves the community of Huddinge rather than hosting international spectacle. The exterior is a long, grey wall.
Inside, the space is divided. One half is filled with water, a twenty-five-metre pool for local training. The other half is a gymnasium floor, where floorball and handball are played. There is no grand stand here, no tiered seating for thousands. This is a working building.
The facility is showing its age. It was built nearly five decades ago, and the structure is currently in poor condition. A new complex, Nya Huddingehallen , is under construction, with work expected to finish around 2030. Until then, the old hall holds onto its place in the town, serving as a base for the floorball club Huddinge IBS and a local fitness centre. It is not the home of the major ice hockey team, Huddinge IK, who play at Björkängshallen, nor the bandy club. It is simply a place where people come to swim and exercise, far from the professional game.
