Kybunhalle

The Kybunhalle sits out of the way of the town’s main thoroughfares, on St. Gallerstrasse 69. It does not announce itself with a grand entrance. Inside, the space is a single volume. It is a place built for handball. The air here is contained, heated, and smells faintly of polished wood and sweat.

For the residents of Arbon, the hall is familiar, though its name changes like the seasons. Most matches see a fraction of that number, with 150 to 310 spectators filling the rows.

The hall is undergoing work. It is a municipal facility, owned by the City of Arbon, and it serves the local community as much as it serves the HC Arbon handball club. When the club plays in the Nationalliga B, the hall becomes the center of attention, if only for a few hours. Then the lights go out, and the town returns to normal.

There is another ground in Arbon, the Sportanlage Stacherholz, for football. It is separate, outdoor, and open to the elements.
